The Yale Club of Boston's 2023 annual meeting will be on Thursday, May 11th, on the 9th floor of 100 High Street. Doors will open at 5:30PM, and club business will begin at 6:00PM. Members in good standing of the Yale Club of Boston will vote on the slate of officers and directors, after which attendees will enjoy a keynote presentation from esteemed faculty from the School of Public Health (see below). Drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be served!

Keynote: The Humanitarian Research Lab at Yale

Since 2022, the Humanitarian Research Lab at Yale (HRL) has documented the war crimes committed during the Russian invasion. Dr. Kaveh Khoshnood will kick-off the presentation, providing information about the HRL and a public health perspective on armed conflict, before turning the podium over to Nathaniel Raymond to present on their findings in the Ukraine.

Speakers

Dr. Khoshnood is an Associate Professor at the  Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) and Faculty Director for the Humanitarian Research Lab (medicine.yale.edu/lab/khoshnood/).  Dr. Khoshnood’s other leadership roles at YSPH include: Faculty Director for InnovateHealth Yale, Critical Topics in Public Health Track for the Executive MPH program and Undergraduate Studies.  Dr. Khoshnood is the co-director of the Global Health Ethics Program at the Yale Institute for Global Health. Dr. Khoshnood’s leadership roles at Yale University include: Executive Committee member at Yale Council on Middle East Studies, and advisory committee member for the new Scholar at Risk Program.  Dr. Khoshnood is trained as an infectious disease epidemiologist and has more than three decades of domestic and international experience in HIV prevention research among people who use drugs and other at-risk populations. Dr. Khoshnood's research interests include: 1) epidemiology and prevention of HIV/AIDS, 2) research ethics and 3) humanitarian health.

Nathaniel A. Raymond (ysph.yale.edu/profile/nathaniel-raymond) is Executive Director of the Humanitarian Research Lab at the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) and a Lecturer in the Department of the Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases (EMD) at YSPH. He was formerly a Lecturer of Global Affairs at the Jackson School for Global Affairs from 2018 - 2022. His research interests focus on the health implications of forced displacement; methodologies for the assessment of large-scale disasters, including pandemics; and the human rights and human security implications of information communication technologies (ICTs) for vulnerable populations, particularly in the context of armed conflict.
