Stephen Greenblatt, Yale College ‘64, and Yale Ph.D. ’69, will talk about Dark Renaissance, his latest book, which focuses on Christopher Marlowe and the evolution of literature in the 16th century. The talk will take place at the renowned Union Club of Boston. A cash bar and light appetizers will open at 5:30. The talk will begin at 6:00 and be followed by questions from the floor. Mr. Greenblatt will have copies of his book available for sale at the event.
Mr. Greenblatt is the author of a number of books about Shakespeare and the Renaissance that have had considerable success including Will in the World, which was on the New York Times best sellers list, and The Swerve, which won the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize! He serves as general editor of The Norton Anthology of English Literature and of The Norton Shakespeare.
Mr. Greenblatt also holds an MA from Pembroke College, Cambridge, which he attended on a Fulbright scholarship. He taught at the University of California for 28 years where became a full professor. In 2000 he began teaching at Harvard where he has held a chair the in humanities. He is the founder and faculty co-chair of Harvard's branch of the Scholars at Risk (SAR) program, an international network of academic institutions organized to support and defend the principles of academic freedom and to defend the human rights of scholars around the world.
